A dark story with a lot of heart and warmth at its core. Beautifully artistic. Somewhat politically incorrect. Mindblowingly sweary and not for the easily offended. \nThose words describe ‘In Bruges’ the Colin Farrell-starring debut feature film from 2008 by Martin McDonagh (now of “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing\, Missouri” fame) as much as the man in whose memory the film will be screened for in Bedford Esquires on 20 April 2018. \n\nDoors at 19:00\nFilm at 19:30\nBeers and beats from 21:30 until late\n\nTickets available soon\n \nIn Bruges is quite a surreal film. Hitmen\, murder\, love\, midgets\, and… fucking Bruges – how did those things come together to become such a coherent\, brilliant whole? According to IMDB\, the word “fuck” or its derivative is said 126 times during the film\, making an average 1.18 “fucks” per minute… \n…which is probably the same average for most conversations anyone ever had with James. \nAt the time of writing\, it is exactly two months since James left us for that great gig in the sky with Lennon\, Bowie\, and Mercury. It’s also one day short of a month since his funeral where Mick (James’ dad) set us all some homework: to carry out random acts of kindness to those who need it\, whenever and wherever we can. \nSo\, this is us\, his friends\, handing in a piece of homework. \nWith thanks to Gareth for letting us hire the venue free of charge\, and Steve and Paul (and all at Bedford Film Festival) for covering the screening costs\, Thanks to them\, every single penny we make from this film screening will go to WaterAid in James’ name\, adding to the £3\,000+ already raised on his JustGiving page. \nWe picked WaterAid because it was James’ preferred charity\, one that he donated to every month and encouraged everyone he knew to donate to. For more on James’ thoughts on WaterAid. \nAnd go here for more on the man himself\, the late\, great\, legendary James Richard Bunker: \nWords by Susanna Mak \n URL:http://bedfordfilmfestival.org/event/in-bruges/ CATEGORIES:Bedford Film Festival 2018,Charity Screenings ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:http://bedfordfilmfestival.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/in-bruges-poster.jpg ORGANIZER;CN="Bedford%20Film%20Festival":MAILTO:info@bedfordfilmfestival.org END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
