Big Gold Dream:
Scottish Post-Punk and Infiltrating the Mainstream
Sponsored by:
Ten years in the making, Grant McPhee’s exhaustive documentary on Edinburgh’s Post-Punk scene finally sees the light of day.
A tale never before told, the film’s focus is on trail-blazing Independent record label Fast Product, and its subsidiaries Pop Aural and Earcom. Featuring candid interviews with those behind the scenes, those in the periphery and the main-players, Rezillos, Scars, Fire Engines, Division and The Human League, Edinburgh in the late 1970’s is painted in all it’s dark, gritty realism.
We talk a lot these days of ‘creative industries’. This inspiring film shows what that bland phrase can really mean. Big Gold Dream brilliantly captures the sound and fury of the Scottish music scene, but it’s universal, too. Anyone who is creative, or passionate, or destructive or young, or less so, will have their eyes and ears opened by Big Gold Dream. I wish I’d seen it years ago (Mark Cousins). - Grant McPhee
